Prof. Dr. med. Samer Ezziddin, MSc

Nuclear Medicine (Head of Physician)

Rating : 10/10 (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Prof. Dr. med. Samer Ezziddin, MSc studied human medicine at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, where he obtained both the German and U.S. medical state examinations in 1997.

🔹After completing more than one year of postgraduate training in endocrinology and hepatology at the University Hospital of Cologne, he moved to the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Bonn University Hospital, where he completed his specialist training. As a senior physician, he played a key role in developing the department's oncology treatment program. In 2008, he was appointed Senior Consultant and Deputy Director of the department.

🔹He completed a Master of Science degree in Clinical Medical Engineering (MSc) at the University of Bonn, with his thesis focusing on different SIRT microspheres and their clinical outcomes. Since 2014, following an extended interim period as acting head, he has led the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Saarland University Medical Center. There, he was appointed W3 University Professor and Chair of Nuclear Medicine at Saarland University, as well as Director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

🔹At Bonn University Hospital, Prof. Ezziddin successfully introduced peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) using lutetium-177-based approaches as one of the early adopters in 2004. He has published extensively on this subject in numerous international scientific journals and completed his habilitation in 2012 on the topic. He is regarded as an international expert in neuroendocrine tumors and targeted radionuclide therapy.

🔹For many years, he headed the radioembolization (SIRT) program at the Department of Nuclear Medicine and, together with his research group, published important studies on dosimetry and molecular imaging for the planning and assessment of treatment outcomes in this liver-directed therapeutic procedure.

🔹His other areas of expertise include the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid and prostate cancer, as well as multimodal imaging using PET-CT and SPECT-CT.

🔹Prof. Ezziddin has served on various professional boards and committees in the fields of cancer therapy and clinical guidelines. Among other positions, he was a member of the ten-member Therapy Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), the Therapy and Guidelines Committee of the German Society of Nuclear Medicine (DGN), the Steering Committee of the CIRSE SIRT Registry (CIRT), and the national SIRT expert panel. He has also contributed as a co-author to several national treatment guidelines.

🔹With his therapeutic focus in both clinical practice and research, his particular interest lies in the optimization and personalization of targeted, radionuclide-based cancer therapies.

🔹Under his leadership, the Department of Nuclear Medicine in Homburg has developed into one of the world's leading institutions in the field of molecular radiotherapy for advanced cancers and targeted radionuclide therapy.
