🔹Professor Dr. Hemmer is a member of various national and international societies and committees.
🔹These include his role as the spokesperson for the Disease-Oriented Competence Network Multiple Sclerosis, a member of the board of the medical advisory board of the German MS Society and the BioMS Consortium.
🔹Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Committees of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in MS and the International Society of Neuroimmunology.
🔹His research has earned him several prestigious awards, including a Heisenberg Scholarship, the Langheinrich Prize, the Heinrich Pette Prize, and the Sobek Prize.
🔹His research activities receive support from the German Research Foundation, the Ministry of Education and Research, the European Union, and various industrial partners. Furthermore, Professor Dr. Hemmer serves as a reviewer for many national and international research funding organizations and scientific journals.
2023: Prof. Dr. Bernhard Hemmer is the Director of the Neurological Clinic at the Technical University of Munich.
🔹Prof. Dr. Hemmer completed his medical studies at the University of Freiburg. There, he began his specialist training at the Neurological University Clinic. With a scholarship from the German Research Foundation, he pursued scientific training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA, in 1995.
🔹From 1998 to 2003, he worked as an assistant and later as a senior physician with a Heisenberg scholarship from the German Research Foundation at the Neurological Clinic of Philipps University Marburg.
🔹From 2004 to 2007, he served as the Deputy Clinic Director and Professor of Neurology at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf. Since May 2007, he has been the Chair of Neurology and the Director of the Neurology Clinic at the Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich.
🔹In addition to his clinical focus on inflammatory and vascular diseases of the central nervous system, he is particularly involved in scientific research on conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Neuro-Borreliosis, Neuro-HIV, and genetic diseases of the nervous system. His emphasis lies on the molecular and immunological causes of these conditions and new therapeutic approaches.
