🔹In 2006, Professor Dieter Christian Wirtz was appointed as the youngest Professor of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the helm of the University Hospital in Bonn. Even back then, he was recognized for his extensive training as a seasoned surgeon and highly competent advisor.
🔹Since his appointment, the "Bonner Orthopedics & Trauma Surgery" department has continuously expanded. Today, the clinic boasts over 120 beds across several comfortably equipped wards and is the largest department within the university hospital.
🔹In the past year, the medical professionals there implanted more than 800 knee and hip prostheses, provided inpatient care for 4,500 patients, and treated 30,000 patients on an outpatient basis. "As a maximum care clinic, patient safety is our top priority," explains Wirtz.
🔹This is not only achieved through having all specialized disciplines under one roof but also by implementing the highest hygiene standards throughout the entire hospital. Professor Wirtz's personal focus in clinical and scientific work for over 25 years has been the treatment of loosened artificial joints.
🔹In Germany, few facilities can match the level of specialization in artificial joint replacement as seen in Bonn: They annually replace around 500 joints, with about half of these replacements being due to infected artificial joints.
