🔹Prof. Stefan Schwab studied medicine in Erlangen and Munich. In 1988, he began working as a scientific assistant at the Neurological University Clinic in Würzburg, initially under Hans Georg Mertens and later Klaus Toyka. From 1990 to 1991, he was a research associate at the Institute of Neuropathology at RWTH Aachen, before moving to the Neurological University Clinic in Heidelberg in 1991, where he served as the senior physician of the clinic under the direction of Werner Hacke until 2005. During this period, he also undertook various study visits, including to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
🔹Since April 2006, Schwab has been a full professor and director of the Neurological Clinic at the University Hospital Erlangen.
🔹From 2004 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2010, Schwab served as President of the German Society for Neurointensive and Emergency Medicine (DGNI). In 2016, he was the Congress President of the Annual Congress of the German Society for Neurology in Mannheim. From 2016 to 2018, he was the President of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine.
🔹Stefan Schwab is married and has two children. His father, Karl-Heinz Schwab, was a German jurist and professor of civil law and civil procedure law, also at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen.
