🔹Professor Schmid's research work, is aimed at better understanding the molecular foundations of pancreatic carcinogenesis and translating these insights into diagnostic and therapeutic concepts. The role of tumor-relevant genetic alterations is investigated using transgenic and knock-in mouse models. He completed his medical studies at the University of Ulm. After earning his doctorate in 1987, he pursued a research stay at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor from 1989 to 1993.
🔹In 1995, he obtained his habilitation at the University of Ulm. In 2002, he was appointed to a professorship at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and became the Director of the Department of Internal Medicine II at the Klinikum rechts der Isar. Professor Schmid is actively involved in the advisory board of the German Cancer Aid and is a member of the editorial board of renowned scientific journals.
🔹He served as Vice Dean from 2007 to 2010 and has been the spokesperson for the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1321 "Modelling and Targeting Pancreatic Cancer" since 2018.
