🔹Prof. Dr. med. Helmut Friess embarked on his educational journey, which spanned from 1982 to 1988, at the University of Ulm, where he pursued a degree in human medicine with a particular elective focus on urology. His professional path subsequently led him through a series of significant roles in the field of medicine. Dr. Friess began as a Medical Intern at the University Hospital Ulm, specifically in the Department of General Surgery, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. H.G. Beger, from November 1988 to June 1990.
🔹Following this, he served as a Research Assistant in the same department from July 1990 to April 1992, working under the leadership of Prof. Dr. H.G. Beger. A pivotal point in his career took him overseas for a Research Stay from May 1992 to October 1993 at the University of California, Irvine, USA. During this period, he collaborated with the Departments of Medicine and Biological Chemistry, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. M. Korc. Upon his return to Europe, Dr. Friess worked as a Resident Physician at the University of Bern, Inselspital, Clinic for Visceral and Transplant Surgery, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. M.W. Büchler, from November 1993 to March 1996.
🔹His commitment and expertise led to his appointment as Deputy Senior Physician in the same department from April 1996 to June 1996. His professional journey continued with a role as Resident Physician at the Biel Regional Hospital, Surgical Clinic, where he worked under the leadership of Prof. Dr. U. Laffer from July 1996 to January 1997. Dr. Friess returned to the University of Bern, Inselspital, Clinic for Visceral and Transplant Surgery, and this time as a Senior Physician, a role he held from February 1997 to September 2001.
🔹In October 2001, a new chapter in his career unfolded as he assumed the position of Chief Senior Physician at Heidelberg University Hospital, specifically in the Department of General, Visceral, and Trauma Surgery, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. M.W. Büchler, where he served until June 2007. Since July 2007, Prof. Dr. med. Helmut Friess has held the esteemed position of Director of the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic at Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished medical career.
