🔹Prof. Matthias Endres is a neurologist and stroke researcher with a focus on vascular mechanisms for stroke protection, risk factors, and prevention, as well as degeneration and regeneration, and depression following a stroke.

🔹He primarily dedicates himself to protective factors that improve vascular function, such as physical activity and other lifestyle factors, as well as pharmacological approaches. He also explores cell death mechanisms and neurological rehabilitation and recovery, including plasticity, angiogenesis, and neurogenesis.

🔹He has a particular interest in the interaction between stroke and psychological factors, such as the influence of stress on stroke and long-term psychological consequences like post-stroke depression.

🔹Another research area concerns the interplay between the heart and the brain, including the connection between stroke and atrial fibrillation and potential cardiac issues resulting from acute stroke.

🔹Since 2008, Prof. Matthias Endres, along with Ulrich Dirnagl, has been co-directing the Center for Stroke Research Berlin, an integrated research and treatment center. Key areas of focus include experimental research, imaging, epidemiology, healthcare research, and, notably, pre-hospital stroke care with the "Stroke-Einsatz-Mobil" (STEMO).
