🔹Prof. Dr. Andreas M. Zeiher is a distinguished Internist and Cardiologist. He currently holds the position of Professor of Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the University of Frankfurt and has been a Distinguished Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt since October 1, 2021.
🔹Prof. Zeiher completed his medical studies at the University of Freiburg and underwent his training in internal medicine and cardiology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg. In 1986-87, he pursued a Clinical Fellowship at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at UCLA in Los Angeles.
🔹In 1990, he assumed the leadership of the Interventional Cardiology department at the University Hospital in Freiburg. In May 1995, he was appointed to the Chair of Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the University Hospital Frankfurt, where he served as the Director of the Medical Clinic III - Cardiology/Angiology/Nephrology - until September 30, 2021.
🔹From April 2019 to April 2021, Prof. Zeiher was the President of the German Society for Cardiology (DGK). Prof. Zeiher's expertise covers the entire spectrum of cardiovascular medicine.
🔹His clinical focus lies in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with coronary heart disease and heart failure, including all interventional treatment procedures. Since 2015, he has been one of the most cited clinical researchers globally and has received numerous national and international awards and honors.
🔹He co-founded and served as the spokesperson for the Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary System, which was granted by the German Research Foundation in 2006, and he continues to be an active member of its directorate.
🔹Since 2011, Prof. Zeiher has been the Site Speaker for the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) at the Rhein-Main site. He has led numerous, sometimes groundbreaking, national and international clinical studies in cardiovascular medicine.
🔹11/81 – 03/83: Completed civilian service as a physician in the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, under the direction of Prof. Dr. H. Just at the University of Freiburg.
🔹04/83 – 02/86: Served as an Assistant Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, under the direction of Prof. Dr. H. Just at the University of Freiburg.
🔹03/86 – 12/87: Awarded a research fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles, USA.
🔹01/88 – 09/90: Continued as an Assistant Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, under the direction of Prof. Dr. H. Just at the University of Freiburg.
🔹01/90: Attained habilitation in Internal Medicine.
🔹10/90 – 05/95: Held the position of Senior Physician and Head of Interventional Cardiology in the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, under the direction of Prof. Dr. H. Just at the University of Freiburg.
🔹Since May 1995: Appointed as the Director of Medical Clinic III, specializing in Cardiology, Nephrology, and Angiology at Goethe University Frankfurt.
🔹2002 – 2004: Served as the Chairman of the Working Group Interventional Cardiology at the European Society of Cardiology.
🔹2001 – 2006: Acted as the Deputy Medical Director of the University Hospital at Goethe University Frankfurt.
🔹2008 – 2012: Co-Spokeperson for the Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary System (ECCPS) funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
🔹2010: Appointed as the Spokesperson for the LOEWE Center for Cell and Gene Therapy.
🔹2010 – 2012: Member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Committee for Practice Guidelines, specifically in the field of 'Heart Failure'.
