🔹Prof. Dr. med. Stefan , He commenced his academic career with preclinical studies at the University of Regensburg from 1989 to 1991 and later continued at the University of Würzburg from 1991 to 1994.
🔹In 1994, he pursued studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, before returning to the University of Würzburg to complete his Third State Examination in 1996. During this time, he also completed a clinical year with rotations in Neurology and Cardiology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, USA.
🔹In 1996, he earned his doctorate with a thesis titled "Influence of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor Treatment with Quinapril on the Energy Metabolism of the Chronically Infarcted Rat Heart." His career path continued with an internship as a doctor at the Medical University Clinic in Würzburg from 1996 to 1997.
🔹From 1998 to 2000, he worked in the Cardiovascular Division at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, conducting molecular biology research under the guidance of Prof. Ralph Kelly with a research scholarship from the DFG. Returning to Würzburg, he served as a medical resident at the Medical University Clinic from 2000 to 2007, achieving specialist status in Internal Medicine in 2005 and subspecializing in Cardiology in 2006.
🔹In the same year, he obtained his Habilitation in the field of Internal Medicine, was awarded the Venia legendi, and appointed as Privatdozent. He also became a Certified Health Economist in 2006.
🔹Over the years, he progressed to various roles, including Senior Physician in the Intensive Care Unit in 2007, with an additional qualification in Intensive Care Medicine, and Secretary of the Cardiovascular Center in 2008.
🔹He became a Diabetologist (DDG) in 2009 and assumed the positions of Head of the Emergency Department and Admission Unit in the same year. In 2010, he implemented and headed the Chest Pain Unit and became a Board Member and Scientific Director of the German Center for Heart Failure (DZHI) in Würzburg.
🔹In 2010, he took on the role of Deputy Clinic Director at the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic I at the University Hospital Würzburg. In 2011, he was appointed to a W2 Professorship in "Translational Research" and became a Board Member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) in Würzburg in 2012.
🔹He also qualified in Intensive Care Medicine in the same year. In 2014, he assumed the position of Director of the University Clinic and Polyclinic for Internal Medicine III at Martin Luther University Halle/Wittenberg and qualified in Cardiology and Internal Medicine Intensive Care Medicine.
🔹He was further appointed as the Chair of the Specialty and Examination Commission for Cardiology at the State Medical Association of Saxony-Anhalt. In 2017, he became the Director of the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic I at the University Hospital Würzburg.
