🔹On July 6, 2017, Professor Hans-Peter Hartung, Director of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf, was appointed as a foreign honorary member by the French Society of Neurology.
🔹The appointment was made in recognition of his scientific achievements in the field of Multiple Sclerosis and immunoneuropathies, as well as his long-standing collaboration with French research groups. Professor Hartung studied medicine as a fellow of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes in Düsseldorf, Glasgow, Baltimore, Oxford, and London.
🔹He obtained his medical examination and license in the year 1980. Following two years of immunological research at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, he achieved his specialist qualification and habilitation at the Department of Neurology of Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf.
🔹He received appointments to the Bavarian Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg and the Karl-Franzens University Graz, where he also became a member of the board of the Neurological University Clinic in 1997. Since 2001, Professor Hartung has been the Director of the Department of Neurology (formerly known as the Neurological Clinic) in Düsseldorf.
🔹His research focuses on the etiology, pathogenesis, and therapy of immunologically induced diseases of the nervous system and muscles, as well as the interaction between the immune and nervous systems. The French Society of Neurology was founded on May 4, 1988, and is a non-profit scientific association.
🔹It has over 2,000 members, including foreign honorary members and 500 doctoral candidates. The society's aim is to promote the development of research in all areas of neuroscience in French-speaking countries.
