Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Sack

Cardiology / Pulmonology (Chief Physician in Department Cardiac Surgery)

Rating : 10/10 (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

🔹Since May 2019, Prof. Dr. Stefan Sack has been the Chief Physician of the Department of Cardiology, Pneumology, and Internal Intensive Care Medicine at Klinikum Neuperlach.

🔹Previously, he served as the Chief Physician of the Department of Cardiology, Pneumology, Internal Intensive Care Medicine, and the Emergency Center at Klinikum Schwabing (Internal Medicine Section) since 2008.

🔹After receiving a postdoctoral fellowship from the Max Planck Society, with a two-year research stay at the Max Planck Institute for Clinical and Experimental Cardiology in Bad Nauheim, Prof. Sack completed his internal medicine and cardiology training at the University Hospitals in Mainz and Essen.

🔹He also received training in invasive electrophysiology at the Kerckhoff Clinic in Bad Nauheim. Since 2006, Prof. Sack has been a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine with additional qualifications in Cardiology, Internal Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Sports Medicine.

🔹One of his main medical focuses is the use of minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of the aortic valve, mitral valve, and coronary arteries. Prof. Sack performed the first catheter-based aortic valve implantation in Germany in 2005 (at the time at the University Hospital Essen) and is internationally recognized as an expert in this field.

🔹Minimally invasive mitral valve repair (Mitralklipping and Mitralraffung) is also within his expertise. Complex procedures can be performed in a hybrid operating room with the use of extracorporeal circulation or circulatory support systems. There is close cooperation with cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, angiology, and radiology in the execution of these procedures.

🔹Another area of focus is chronic heart failure with the clinical picture of cardiomyopathy. Prof. Dr. Sack played a significant role in the development of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) and performed the first CRT system implantation in 1998.

🔹The new CCM therapy (cardiac contractility modulation) for improving heart pump function is also offered at Klinikum Neuperlach. In electrophysiology, interventional treatment of heart rhythm disorders is performed with catheter ablation and device implantation.
