The Helios Klinikum Emil von Behring in Berlin's southwest is a modern medical center formed by merging three prestigious hospitals. It evolved from a foundation hospital to today's institution. Notably, the Oskar-Helene-Heim Foundation took over Behring-Krankenhaus and Lungenklinik Heckeshorn in 2000. Originally established in 1905, Oskar-Helene-Heim grew into a renowned orthopedic and trauma surgery university hospital.
In 2004, the foundation turned its hospital into a GmbH, with Helios Kliniken GmbH becoming a co-owner. Lungenklinik Heckeshorn, a prominent pulmonary and thoracic surgery center, relocated to Behring-Krankenhaus in 2007.
Today, Helios Klinikum Emil von Behring, located in Steglitz-Zehlendorf, offers top-notch medical care with 507 beds, 15 day-care spots, 14 departments, including seven certified centers, and advanced medical facilities. It also features specialized institutes and outpatient services, catering to both adults and children.
Each year, the hospital treats around 25,000 inpatients and 55,000 outpatients. The well-equipped emergency center, with a pediatric unit, serves over 30,000 patients with acute conditions and injuries, recognized as a local trauma center.
