🔹Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Gasser grew up in Weinheim (Baden-Württemberg) and in Cape Town, South Africa. His medical studies took him to the Ignaz Semmelweis University in Budapest, the University Hospital Essen, and several international locations.

🔹He also interned at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. Following his medical license, he pursued a doctoral degree in epidural scarring after lumbar intraspinal procedures. His specialization training was followed by a habilitation on the development and clinical relevance of functional magnetic resonance imaging in neurosurgery.

🔹He established the field of Functional Neurosurgery and Intraoperative Imaging at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and has been responsible for the Department of Functional Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Essen since 2008.

🔹His medical practice places a strong emphasis on the use of state-of-the-art therapeutic methods for the treatment of pain and movement disorders, including Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Additionally, he specializes in the surgical and microsurgical treatment of spine and brain disorders.

🔹In Prof. Dr. Gasser's academic career, he focuses on the utilization of complex imaging techniques in neurosurgery. In 2005, he was honored with the International Exchange Grant from the German and Japanese Societies for Neurosurgery, leading to a research stay at Tokyo Women's Medical University.
